May Madness Donations Sought

Santa Barbara, CA Are your closets and garage teeming with unwanted or unused treasures long removed from workaday cares? Perhaps you have one or more items of some value that you'd gladly part with, particularly in support of a worthy local cause. In either case, the organizers of May Madness, a massive yard and estate sale benefiting the Music Academy of the West, want to hear from you.

Donations should be brought to the Music Academy, located at 1070 Fairway Road in Santa Barbara, between 9:30 am and 3 pm on these days:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, through March 18
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from March 23 through April 22
  • Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30

Sale items will include furniture, small appliances, kitchenware, fine linens, antiques, silver, crystal, china, rugs, art, hardcover books, board games, music and movies, electronics, luggage, jewelry, men's and women's clothing, and – new this year – cars. Contributed items should be clean and in good condition. Obsolete electronics, large kitchen appliances, and architectural salvage materials (windows, doors, stoves, etc.) will not be accepted. Donations can be dropped off in the lower parking area at the Music Academy (simply follow the signs upon entering the campus). Clothing donations should be delivered to The Rack, the Academy's year-round on-campus apparel resale shop. For clothing donation inquiries, call 969.0190. This year's May Madness event will take place from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, May 8, at the Music Academy of the West. Now in its 34th year, May Madness is organized by the Women's Auxiliary of the Music Academy, a volunteer organization that supports the Academy year-round.

Founded in 1947, the Music Academy of the West is among the nation's preeminent summer schools and festivals for gifted young classical musicians. The Academy provides these promising musicians with the opportunity for advanced study and frequent performance under the guidance of internationally renowned faculty artists, guest conductors, and soloists. Admission to the Academy is strictly merit based, and Fellows receive full scholarships (tuition, room, and board). Academy alumni are members of major symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, ensembles, opera companies, and university and conservatory faculties throughout the world. Many enjoy careers as prominent solo artists.
