Academy Brass Ensemble to Present Free Concert July 22

Santa Barbara, CA- The Academy Brass Ensemble will present a free concert at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara on Sunday, July 22. The concert will take place at 2 pm and include works by Brahms, Bruce Broughton, Shostakovich, and John Williams.

Led by Mark Lawrence, principal trombone of the San Francisco Symphony, the Academy Brass Ensemble consists of 19 exceptional brass players and percussionists. All are participating in the Music Academy of the West's 2007 Summer School and Festival.

"These are truly the stars of tomorrow in the worlds of brass and percussion," said Mr. Lawrence, who is an active soloist, clinician, chamber musician, and teacher. "This concert will provide an excellent showcase for their talents."

First Presbyterian Church is located at 21 East Constance Avenue in Santa Barbara.

The Music Academy of the West is celebrating its 60th anniversary with an unprecedented 2007 season program featuring numerous classical music luminaries. The Academy will present more than 190 events over the course of this year's Summer School and Festival, which concludes on August 11. Highlights include an ambitious production of La Bohème, performances by baritone Thomas Hampson, violinist Gilles Apap, and the Takács Quartet, and conducting turns by David Robertson, Jeffrey Tate, and Alexander Lazarev.
