Event to feature Music Academy faculty and young artists performing together

Santa Barbara, CA- Chamberfest, the Music Academy of the West's annual chamber music showcase featuring faculty and young artists performing together, will take place at 8 pm Friday, August 10, in the Lobero Theatre. Tickets cost $38.

This year's program will include works by Mozart (Andante with Five Variations, K. 501, and Serenade for Winds in C Minor, K. 388), Bottesini (Two Arias), Stravinsky (Pastorale), Nielsen (Serenata in vano), and Milhaud (Scaramouche). Music Academy faculty participants will include the legendary pianist Jerome Lowenthal. Chamberfest is sponsored in part by Santa Barbara Bank & Trust.

"This event offers a rare opportunity to see our talented faculty and young artists performing side by side. Together they'll explore the range - and manifold delights - of chamber music," said Richard Feit, vice president for artistic programs and operations at the Music Academy.

The Music Academy of the West is celebrating its 60th anniversary with an unprecedented 2007 season program featuring numerous classical music luminaries. Highlights include an ambitious production of La Bohème, performances by baritone Thomas Hampson and the Takács Quartet and a conducting turn by Alexander Lazarev.
