Santa Barbara, CA-The public is invited to observe four masterclasses for French horn and attend a related recital at the Music Academy of the West March 20-23. The classes and recital will be led by acclaimed orchestral performer and chamber musician Eli Epstein, a faculty member at the Music Academy of the West, the Boston Conservatory and the Aspen Music School. Admission and campus parking are free.

The masterclasses will take place from 2:30-4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 20, and from 10:30 am-12:30 pm, Wednesday-Friday, March 21-23. The recital will take place at 7 pm on Friday, March 23. All events will be held in Lehmann Hall at the Music Academy, located at 1070 Fairway Road in Santa Barbara.

The Music Academy is presenting the classes and recital as part of its inaugural Advanced French Horn Workshop with Mr. Epstein. A six-day intensive seminar for professionals, students, advanced amateurs and teachers, the workshop will take place March 19-24 at the Music Academy.

"It's especially helpful for workshop participants to perform in front of their peers and a live audience during the week. Public masterclass participants will play works such as the Beethoven Sonata for Horn and Piano and the Mozart Horn Concerto No. 2 with piano accompaniment. In addition, throughout the week we will have an ongoing dialogue about performance butterflies. I will present several techniques to help get those butterflies flying in formation. The participants will get a chance to cap off the week with a formal recital," said Mr. Epstein.

Formerly a member of the Cleveland Orchestra, Mr. Epstein has presented masterclasses and recitals at conservatories throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Many of his former students hold positions in major orchestras throughout the world.
