Santa Barbara, CA-The Music Academy of the West has launched subscription ticket sales for its much-anticipated 2008 season, which will take place June 23 through August 16. The Academy will present 188 events over the course of this year's Summer School and Festival.
Highlights will include the West Coast premiere of William Bolcom's opera A Wedding, performances by pianist Christopher Taylor, violinist Donald Weilerstein, and the Takács Quartet, and conducting turns by Peter Oundjian, Nicholas McGegan, George Manahan, and Anne Manson.
Music lovers can choose from among 8 compelling discounted series: the Vocal Masterclass Series (10 events, $160); the Solo Piano Masterclass Series (8 events, $96 and $80); the Orchestra Series (5 events, $207); the Opera Plus Series (5 events, $163); the Chamberfest Series (6 events, $204); the Visiting Artists Series (3 events, $114); the Picnic Concerts Series (7 events, $140); and the Instrumental Masterclass Series (more than 50 events, tickets available in books of 25, 15, and 10 for $200, $135, and $100, respectively). Or, for the ultimate Festival experience - and the greatest savings - they can select a Festival Series subscription that includes seven packaged series and 10 instrumental masterclass passes, for just $920.

Founded in 1947, the Music Academy of the West is among the nation's preeminent summer schools and festivals for gifted young classical musicians.
