Santa Barbara, CA The Music Academy of the West has launched subscription ticket sales for its much-anticipated 2009 season, which will take place June 22 through August 15. The Academy will present 192 events over the course of this year's Summer School and Festival.

Highlights will include an exciting production of Ambroise Thomas' lyrical opera Mignon, performances by pianist Christopher Taylor and the Takács Quartet, and conducting turns by Larry Rachleff, Peter Oundjian, Alexander Mickelthwate, Nicholas McGegan, and Leonard Slatkin.

Music lovers can choose from among 8 compelling discounted series: the Vocal Masterclass Series (10 events, $160); the Solo Piano Masterclass Series (8 events, $96 and $80); the Orchestra Series (4 events, $169); the Opera Plus Series (5 events, $173); the Tuesdays @ 8 Series (6 events, $168); the Visiting Artists Series (4 events, $160); the Picnic Concert Series (7 events, $154); and the Instrumental Masterclass Series (more than 50 events, tickets available in books of 25, 15, and 10 for $200, $135, and $100, respectively). Or, for the ultimate Festival experience - and the greatest savings - they can select a Festival Series subscription that includes all eight packaged series and 10 instrumental masterclass passes, for just $937.

Founded in 1947, the Music Academy of the West is among the nation's preeminent summer schools and festivals for gifted young classical musicians. The Academy provides these promising musicians with the opportunity for advanced study and frequent performance under the guidance of internationally renowned faculty artists, guest conductors, and soloists. Admission to the Academy is strictly merit based, and Fellows receive full scholarships (tuition, room, and board). Academy alumni are members of major symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, ensembles, opera companies, and university and conservatory faculties throughout the world. Many enjoy careers as prominent solo artists. Based in Santa Barbara, the Music Academy of the West presents more than 200 public events annually, including performances by faculty, visiting artists, and Fellows; masterclasses; orchestra and chamber music concerts; and fully staged opera.
