During the 2013 Summer School and Festival, donors at the $1,500 level and above will enjoy access to private pre-concert champagne receptions in the Granada Theatre’s beautiful Founder’s Room. Receptions will take place prior to each of the four Academy Festival Orchestra concerts held throughout the summer. Additional receptions will take place July 12 and 20 and August 10.

Join us on for a special closed-to-the-public orchestra rehearsal in Hahn Hall showcasing internationally renowned early music conductor Bernard Labadie and members of the Academy Festival Orchestra. At this exclusive event you will be treated to a sneak peek of the following evening’s highly anticipated concert featuring Gluck’s Don Juan, the overture to Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 101.

Join us at the Granada Theatre for a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process of internationally acclaimed conductor Leonard Slatkin as he works to prepare the Academy Festival Orchestra for a concert that will include Beethoven’s boisterous and lighthearted Symphony No. 8 and Shostakovich’s sardonically triumphant Symphony No. 5. The rehearsal will be preceded by a fascinating conversation with Patrick Posey, the Academy’s Vice President for Artistic Planning and Educational Programs, who will provide musical insights and give historical context to the masterworks featured on the concert program.

Participants will be treated to a captivating conversation between opera’s grandest diva Marilyn Horne and Music Academy opera director David Paul. Marilyn and David will discuss the timelessness of The Magic Flute and will share insights into the creative direction and design elements of the Music Academy’s upcoming production of Mozart’s beloved masterpiece. This fascinating conversation will be followed by a private reception on Kuehn Court.

This annual event honoring Encore Society members takes place in the Frances Holden Encore Society Garden and features an ensemble performance by Academy Fellows.

Be among the first to see the world’s most talented young singers vying for 23 positions in the Academy’s internationally renowned Voice Program. Applicants will perform live for Marilyn Horne, Warren Jones, and other select Academy faculty members. This is a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the audition process and a preview of some of the talented singers you could be hearing during the 2014 Summer School and Festival.
