Timothy Day was appointed principal flute of the San Francisco Symphony in 2007 and occupies the symphony's Caroline H. Hume Chair. Previously, he served as principal flute with the Baltimore Symphony for 12 seasons.
Mr. Day has served as acting principal flute for the Minnesota Orchestra and the Boston Symphony. He also performs regularly as principal flutist with the California Symphony and has participated in festivals in San Diego, Moab, Mohonk, and Montreal.
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Robert Willoughby, Mr. Day joined the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1987. He has appeared many times in the San Francisco Symphony Chamber Music Series, most recently in January, when he performed in Ludwig Thuille's Sextet in B-flat Major, op. 6.
Mr. Day has been a member of the Music Academy faculty since 1992.
