Collaborative Piano
Jonathan Feldman, Director; Natasha Kislenko; Margaret McDonald
Under the direction of Jonathan Feldman, the Collaborative Piano Program is designed for advanced pianists who are interested in exploring in-depth the vast instrumental repertoire.
Application Process, Audition List, Dates and Deadlines
The program focuses on general concepts of successful partnering, technical and pianistic concerns, keys to professional survival, and issues of building repertoire. All aspects of the literature will be covered, including sonatas and duos, orchestral reductions, and character pieces. The Music Academy accepts eight collaborative pianists each year. Applicants must be 16 years of age prior to the start of the festival season.
Fellows accepted for the program receive intensive and personalized training, including:
- weekly private lessons, preferably with instrumental partners
- frequent public masterclasses
- abundant performance opportunities as partners in daily public instrumental masterclasses
- involvement as partners in the Academy's concerto competition
- frequent interaction with the Academy's outstanding instrumental faculty
Other Activities
Pianists are assigned the various keyboard parts in Music Academy orchestral concerts. Seminars addressing topics of interest and practical professional matters, such as resumes, repertoire lists, stage decorum, and psychological responsibilities, take place weekly. Every effort is made to allow time for attending the Vocal Piano classes.
