
The Collaborative Piano Application Process
Applicants to the Collaborative Piano Program must submit a completed application form and participate in a live audition. The application fee is $75. A discounted application fee of $50 is available to those who apply early. Application fees are non-refundable. See details below for 2010 program audition information.
The Application
Online applications are preferred. Applicants also have the option of downloading and printing a written application in pdf format. An application fee is required when submitting either application. Please see the application form for fees and payment methods. Written applications must be submitted to:

After you complete the written or online application form, make a copy. Include the ORIGINAL in your application packet if you filled out the printable application; bring the copy to your live audition.
Audition repertoire (including keys), as well as choice of audition place and date, must be submitted with your application. The Music Academy will contact applicants to schedule auditions upon receipt of completed applications.
The Live Audition
All applicants for the Collaborative Piano Program must audition in person. Auditions are held in New York City, Chicago, and at the Music Academy campus in Santa Barbara, California. Applicants must use Academy instrumental partners. There will be no exceptions made for substitution of partners. Rehearsal time with provided partners is limited to 20 minutes just prior to the audition. When selecting from the repertoire options listed below, the audition panel advises that your orchestral and sonata choices be of two contrasting styles.

Orchestral Reduction
Choose one of the following concertos; applicant must be prepared to play entire concerto:
- Sibelius: Violin Concerto
- Dvorák: Cello Concerto in B Minor
- Walton: Viola Concerto
- Any Mozart Concerto for solo violin, flute, or clarinet
Sonata
Choose one of the following sonatas; applicant must be prepared to play the entire sonata:
- Prokofiev: Sonata in D major, op. 94, flute or violin
- Brahms: Sonata in F minor, op. 120, no. 1, clarinet or viola
- Franck: Sonata in A major, violin or cello

Sight-reading and a short interview will be part of each audition.
