Flute applicants must 1. apply online and 2. perform a live audition OR submit a recorded video DVD audition. Live auditions are filmed for later review by Mr. Day. Equal enrollment consideration is offered to both audition methods.
Applying by the deadline does not guarantee a live audition; live auditions are first come, first served. Visit this webpage prior to appyling to see if a particular city's audition schedule is already full.
The Music Academy accepts four flutists each summer.
The Application
The online application requires three components: the application data, a one-page resume, and a short statement (100 words) explaining why you wish to attend the Music Academy.
An application fee is required by credit card or electronic check when submitting the online application. Application fees are NON-refundable.
Audition REPERTOIRE - summer 2012 applicants
All selections must be unaccompanied and in the following order
- Mozart, D Major or G Major concerto, I, exposition only
- Mendelssohn, Midsummer Night's Dream, Scherzo, two before P to end
- Stravinsky, Firebird Suite (1919), Firebird Variation
- Ravel, Daphnis and Chloé, Suite No. 2, solo
- Brahms, Symphony No. 4, IV, 9 after D to end of solo
- Beethoven, Leonore Overture No. 3, solo
Video DVD Audition Recording: Applicants who do not audition live must submit a a continuous, unedited DVD (do not stop or pause the filming between excerpts). DVDs must be playable on a standard DVD player. Write your full name and "flute" on the DVD and case (please do not adhere labels to the disc). Send 1 copy of the DVD to:
