DANIEL SHAO 22, born in London, UK, is a master's degree student studying with Samuel Coles at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by a Countess of Munster award. Mr. Shao earned his bachelor’s degree in music at Oxford University, graduating with first class honors. Mr. Shao has served as principal flute with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and Orpheus Sinfonia. In 2015, Mr. Shao auditioned successfully for the London Symphony Orchestra Academy, and in 2017 for the prestigious Lucerne Festival Academy. As a soloist, Mr. Shao has won many prizes including first place at the British Flute Society, International Award Carl Reinecke, Alexander and Buono, and the Oxford Philharmonic Concerto Competitions. This is his first summer at the Music Academy of the West, and he is extremely excited!
