HANNAH HAMMEL 23, born in Richmond, Virginia, holds a master’s degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. An active solo flutist, Ms. Hammel has won several competitions, including the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, Orchestral Excerpt Competition, and competitions of the Atlanta, Houston, Mid-South, and Ohio Flute Associations. Ms. Hammel has performed in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Severance Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Suntory Hall. Hannah Hammel is a regular substitute for New World Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and Houston Grand Opera, and has attended summer festivals including Pacific Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and Round Top Festival Institute. Ms. Hammel also has extensive performance experience with contemporary music and historical performance on the one-keyed Baroque flute, and is an avid teacher. Ms. Hammel’s primary teachers include Leone Buyse and Alexa Still.
