JACK RYAN WALTERS (’16) 24, born in Seattle, Washington, is a graduate student at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he studies with Richie Hawley. Mr. Walters completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, where he studied with Dan Gilbert and Chad Burrow. Mr. Walters has been a substitute musician for both the Dexter Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony. While a Music Academy fellow in 2016, he was selected for the Zarin Mehta Global Academy and subsequently performed with the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Walters was recently appointed second clarinetist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra by Leonard Slatkin and will begin this coming fall. This is his second summer at the Music Academy of the West.
