MICHAEL MARKS (’16) 23, raised in Gilbert, Arizona, holds a bachelor’s degree from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Peter Lloyd, and is pursuing a master’s degree at Shepherd School of Music at Rice University with Timothy Pitts. Mr. Marks was appointed Principal Bass of Arizona Opera in 2013 at age 19, and held this position until he resigned in 2016 to focus on his studies. Mr. Marks is a substitute musician for the Houston, Phoenix, and New World Symphonies, the Houston Grand and LA Opera Orchestras, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. In 2016, Mr. Marks became an ambassador for the Doublestop Foundation and, as such, performs on a 19th century Venetian double bass attributed to Giacinto Santagiuliana on generous loan from the foundation.
