RICHARD YU FU 26, was born in Shanghai and raised in Los Angeles. While attending Dartmouth College and preparing for a career in law, Mr. Fu studied abroad in Vienna and fell in love with classical music, and pursued further music studies at the Royal College of Music and University of Oxford. Richard Yu Fu has won prizes including the Mark L. Lebowitz 1977 Memorial Prize, Macdonald-Smith Prize, Gerald A. Tracy Memorial Scholarship Piano Competition, Kendall Taylor Beethoven Prize, and Los Angeles International Liszt Piano Competition. Mr. Fu has performed concertos with the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Dartmouth Chamber Orchestra, and Oxford University Philharmonic. Richard Yu Fu’s interest in collaborations led him to start Béla Trio, a clarinet-violin-piano ensemble focusing on contemporary music. Mr. Fu also performed Stravinsky’s Septet as part of RCM’s collaboration with the Philharmonia Orchestra in the Stravinsky: Myths & Rituals Festival, as well as music by Steve Reich and Brett Dean during their residencies at the RCM.  Mr. Fu’s main teachers include Hong Teng, Sally Pinkas, Andrew Ball, and Victor Rosenbaum, and he will begin studying collaborative piano at The Juilliard School this fall.
