Music Academy announces the launch of the 2020 Alumni Enterprise Awards

Revolutionary. Daring. Inspiring.

Santa Barbara, CA — A pioneer of thought leadership in music and the arts, Music Academy of the West announces the launch of the application season for the 2020 Alumni Enterprise Awards, open to all alumni. This unique award funds innovative ideas in areas including artistic expression, audience development, education, community engagement, social justice, and technology.

Winning projects have been ongoing, including a Novel Voices debut at Carnegie Hall, Victory Hall Opera announcing the winner of its Ready.Set competition, and Longleash Trio launching its videography series.

The Alumni Enterprise Awards are generously supported by Regina and Rick Roney and the Ladera Foundation.

ABOUT THE AWARD

Thirteen alumni have received Alumni Enterprise Awards over the past two years, for a total of $150,000 to support their proposed programs, selected by the Academy’s leaders in collaboration with its distinguished National Advisory Council. In addition to the winning projects, three Innovation Awards were given in 2019 in support of their work, and three Fast Pitch Awards were given to selected 2019 fellows that pitched their biggest and brightest ideas to their peers and esteemed panelists.

2019 award winners also participated in the first-ever Music Academy Entrepreneurship and Innovation Business Residential in March, which supplied attendees with essential business tools. We are thrilled to share with you some of the achievements our winners have made since launching their projects.

2020 Alumni Enterprise Awards applications went live October 1 and are due by November 30, with winners announced by January 15, 2020. This opportunity is available to all alumni. For more information, visit musicacademy.org/awards.

Following the success of his November 2018 pop-up storefront in NYC, the second Bach Store Variation One was open throughout July 2019 in New York’s financial district.

The Carr-Petrova Duo celebrates their Novel Voices Refugee Project in the duo’s Carnegie Hall debut on October 28, mounted to raise awareness about the lives and struggles of refugees across the globe.

READY.SET / ARMIDA

Victory Hall Opera [VHO] announced the winning design of the Ready.Set Competition. Architect Yimeng Teng’s set design will be unveiled on stage this November during VHO’s production of Haydn’s Armida.

Longleash Trio presented Pauline Oliveros’ Tree Peace, a collection of sonic explorations related to the life-cycle of trees, at Bernheim Forest in Kentucky. This represents the first piece in the winning videography project series

THE ENCHANTED TAIL

In May 2019, the original children’s fairytale opera was performed for over 5,000 elementary school students at San Diego’s Balboa Theater. Repeat performances with the San Diego Opera are scheduled for May 2020.

The Music Academy of the West advances the development of 21st century classically trained musicians and cultivates discerning, appreciative, and adventurous audiences. Founded in 1947, the Academy operates on a 10-acre, ocean-side campus in Santa Barbara, California. Music Academy of the West’s world-renowned eight-week Summer Festival offers nearly 200 events.
