The Music Academy Board Chair announces new board member Clive Chang

Santa Barbara, CA — The Music Academy of the West is pleased to announce the appointment of Clive Chang to the Board of Directors for a three-and-a-half-year term, effective June 1, 2019. Mr. Chang will also serve as a returning panelist in the Music Academy’s third annual Classical Evolution/Revolution Conference this July. Last summer, he led an exciting panel discussing artist entrepreneurship and innovation. Mr. Chang, based in New York City, now joins the Music Academy to bring his unique skillset and experience to our Board.

Mr. Chang brings extensive expertise to our Board as a leader in the arts and entertainment industry as well as being a professional musician. We are pleased to welcome him to the Academy in this exciting role.

Clive Chang is an arts and entertainment executive and professional musician based in New York City. Currently, Mr. Chang serves as Director, Strategy & Business Development for Disney Theatrical Group, where he is responsible for steering strategic planning and growth of Disney’s commercial live entertainment businesses worldwide. Mr. Chang’s key areas of oversight include long-range planning, deal and decision analysis, industry insight, content and franchise management, and new venture development.

Prior to Disney, Mr. Chang spent three years at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, initially serving as Special Assistant to the President, and subsequently as Senior Director, Strategy & Business Development, where he led a team responsible for internal consulting, earned revenue growth, and special projects. He was a key founding member of Lincoln Center’s trailblazing global consulting practice and successfully led projects for both domestic and international clients. In addition to Lincoln Center, Mr. Chang has also previously held strategic planning roles at New York City Ballet and New York Road Runners.

Outside of corporate life, Mr. Chang is active in the community as a musician, appearing frequently as a pianist and music director for concerts, cabarets, special events, professional training programs, and developmental readings and productions. As a composer, his original works range from chamber music to full-length musicals, which have been performed across various venues in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Clive Chang holds both a Bachelor of Music (composition, piano) and a Bachelor of Commerce (finance, strategy) from McGill University, a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theater Writing from NYU/Tisch School of the Arts, and a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. Mr. Chang is currently adjunct faculty in the graduate program in Arts Administration at Columbia University.
